The Group is dedicated to developing its employees to their full potential. Even under the adverse economic conditions amidst the 2008 global financial crisis, the Group did not have any layoff plans and salary payments were made on time. In view of strengthening the employees’ sense of belonging to the Group and to foster a caring culture in the workplace, the Group organizes staff gatherings on a regular basis. As a result of these key initiatives, the Group was able to maintain a low staff turnover rate. Over 40% of the existing employees have worked in the Group for more than 10 years and the overall average length of service is about 9 years. The Board believes that the Group’s management team including the Directors, is strongly supported by all the employees.
Staff Compensation and Benefits
The Group carries out salary adjustment reviews for its employees with reference to the performance of the Group and according to individual merits. To ease the current inflation the group decided to provide salary increments to its employees at an average rate of 10% starting from April 2010. The Group provides its employees a comprehensive benefit plan which includes medical insurance, hospitalization scheme, mandatory provident fund and share option scheme.
Occupational Safety and Health
The Group's management believes that healthy employees are key assets for the Group. As such, the Group cares for its, employees’ health and safety, including their mental health. The Group provides its employees’ a comfortable working environment by keeping a variety of plants, paintings and artworks at the office. To ensure that Styland’s employees work in a healthy and safe environment, the Group upgrades the employees’ office computers from time to time and also maintains a tidy floor area. To implement the ‘green office’ concept, the Group grows a variety of plants in the office. Employees are also encouraged to keep potted plants on their desks.
Employee Development
To enhance employees’ job performance, the Group not only provides on-the-job training to its employees, but also sponsors them for their continued learning. The Group has clearly set out the procedures by which employees can take advantage of the educational sponsorship programs provided by the Group including the application procedures.
Staff Gatherings / Enjoyment at Styland
To reduce work-related stress among its employees, the Group organizes a social gathering for its employees every one or two months. To promote family harmony, employees and their family members are invited to join the Group’s parties where children will be given gifts or toys during major festivals. The Group also arranged fun-filled day tours for its employees and their families where staff participated free of charge and their family members at half price. These tours have been very well received by the staff and their families. The Group believes that social gatherings are important to create and enhance the employees’ sense of belonging to the Group. The Group further believes that via these social gatherings, the employees can achieve a healthy work-life balance. Having these social activities has benefited the Group by reducing staff turnover as shown by the Group’s low staff turnover rate.
